My business involves the resolution of damage claims. So I have an
ongoing need for dependable, high-quality repair and restoration
services of all types.
I have been using Sergey's services for
art restoration regularly for about 15-20 years. He has done work for
me on canvas paintings, wood finishes, gold gesso, gold leaf, ceramics
and probably some things I dont' even remember.
I have never been
disappointed. The breadth of his knowledge and skills is rarely found
outside a museum's restoration department.
Sergey was trained for
this as a young man in the Soviet Union -- in a system that demanded
excellence from those who'd be caring for its artistic treasures. (Art
College Vizhnicya and Academy of Art Lvov, Ukraine)
Since
establishing his studio in San Francisco in 1992, Sergey has done
conservation work for both the Oakland Museum and the Fine Arts Museum
of San Fancisco, as well as for serious art/antique dealers and private
collectors in the Bay Area.
His prices are fair. He
understands the value of what he is doing, and the value of each piece
he works on. If your artwork is not worth the expense of restoration,
you can trust that he will be honest with you about that.
Over
many years, Sergey Konstantinov has consistently delivered
museum-quality art restoration services for my clients, and always at a
fair price. That's worth 5 stars any day.

contacted me in November 2017. My name was given to her by an antique
dealer.
She contacted me to restore a paintings. We setup a time and I sent her the bill.$250.00. Payment is supposed to be received before an appointment. When I did not receive the payment from her,
I cancelled the appointment. In February 2018 , I got a review in Yelp that said I broke the agreement and cancelled the appointment.
This is a lie. I have all her emails. Very bad management.

My encounter with Sergey was very strange. I contacted him about restoring several paintings with smoke damage. His communications were cryptic and confusing; I was struggling to understand his English, but I couldn't find anyone else who offered these services. I decided to give him a try. We agreed to a fee of $250 for him to drive an hour from San Francisco to inspect the paintings and provide a quote. I had absolutely no issue with paying an inspection fee due to the drive time and our need to get a solid price quote on the repairs. A few days before our appointment, he sent me an email in all caps along the lines of, "PAYMENT OF $250 REQUIRED WHEN I ARRIVE. HAVE CHECK READY PAYABLE TO...." Then he sent me the same message via text. The way he was communicating made me uncomfortable, so I told him how I felt because it was unlike any business communication I'd ever had. He sent me text that said, "Cancel appointment." Words were misspelled. Maybe he was just having a bad day. After reading my review on Yelp, he stated that he canceled because I had not paid in advance. That was not clear to me. I've got a lot going on with recovering from the wildfire damages. I wouldn't have been comfortable paying someone $250 by check by mail that I had never met, who doesn't have a lot of reviews or presence online, who communicates via a mindspring email. Luckily, I found Lanzini Art Restoration not long after, and I had no issues setting up appointments or communicating with them. The above review is my honest account of trying to do business with him, and I felt it was important for others to know. Sergey has since retaliated against this personal review by leaving my employer a one-star review. I updated my original review of Sergey from one to three stars in hopes that he will leave me and my employer alone.
